Turn harvests into useful measurements
Record every harvest, separate rejected produce and compare only matching periods and areas.
Agree what counts as saleable
Define your market requirements before recording results. Use the same grading rule across varieties. Weigh the gross harvest and rejected portion separately; do not substitute the weight of a single good picking for the full comparison.
Use consistent units
The notebook records harvest weights in kilograms and plot areas in square metres. Marketable weight is gross weight minus rejected weight. When an area is supplied, marketable kilograms divided by that area gives kilograms per square metre for the recorded harvests.
Check the record before interpreting it
Make sure the harvest dates cover a comparable period and that all recorded pickings belong to the stated plot. A missing picking is missing information, not a zero harvest. The notebook totals the records you enter; it cannot correct an incomplete harvest series.
