Record establishment, management and unexpected events so you can interpret results in context.
Create a baseline
Note your location, production system, sowing or transplant date and seed lot. Add the common management you plan to use. Keep a copy of any technical information supplied with the seed.
Record the exceptions
Write down irrigation interruptions, visible stress, unusual weather, pest observations or management changes when they happen. Describe what you observed rather than diagnosing a disease from appearance alone. Obtain appropriate local advice where a diagnosis or treatment decision is needed.
Keep records comparable
Use the same observation method for each variety. If one plot receives different treatment, record the reason and timing. A difference in outcome may reflect the management or conditions as well as the variety.
